The J/46 is a legendary shorthanded cruising sailboat. She is perhaps the best of all worlds. Having won awards such as Sailing World Magazine’s Boat of the Year, the J is a rare gem of a yacht. Her timeless elegance is equally at home in the world’s most prestigious clubs, as it is crossing oceans to far flung lands, or racing in bucket list regattas.
She possesses sailing performance which outpaces much larger yachts and catamarans, all in a configuration optimized for ease of handling, maintenance, and livability for extended cruising. She can easily be solo or doublehanded or sailed with a larger crew in comfort.
The J/46 is a quality made in the USA boat, by experienced Rhode Island boat builders. Her construction is SCRIMP vacuum infusion, making her stiff and light. Ballast is provided by a shoal draft lead fin keel, bolted to a keel stub and integrated stringers. She was build as an investment grade yacht, not as a standard racing J. Through bolted areas of the deck are solid cored at build or or over drilled and sealed with epoxy.
The boat is fully off the grid capable and is ready with all the gear needed to go around the world, or easily remove the cruising gear and win a major regatta on handicap. Her one-design class is actively raced at the prestigious Camden Classic Regatta in Maine. Her sistership has won the ORC class in the SORC series. Transpac? Sydney Hobart? Bermuda? Transat? Cruise the ICW, Bahamas and Caribbean? Sail RTW? She can do it all well!
This J is actively sailed by professional sailors, maintained to grand-prix sailing standards & continuously upgraded. Notes:
This boat is very well sorted, but as she is actively cruised and sailed as so she needs some cosmetic touch ups here and there to be “superyacht” or “bristol new boat” perfect. This is mostly paint, varnish nicks and scratches, floorboards, canvas, whisker pole, deck, etc. from active use, we could correct these items before delivery to the next buyer depending on the offer. Alternatively, we will happily discuss these items in detail and negotiate the price if the buyer doesn’t want them addressed, as they don’t affect sailing performance and life on board (in fact most people won’t even notice these things as they are normal wear for a cruising boat of this vintage). Carpet is easily removable and in place only to protect the floor boards and provide additional comfort below. We reserve the right to make equipment changes and improvements to the boat and to this listing as we use and maintain the boat. This listing and its details is not part of any contract, unless specifically included in a binding bill of sale.
